Emmi, congrats on winning the giveaway!

It's fall time and the weather is getting chilly. Horses are growing their fuzzy winter coats to prepare for the cold. Shouldn't everyone be donning an extra layer to keep warm?

  1. My favorite fall ride has to be right here in the Cleveland MetroParks--the Rocky River Reservation--where the trail follows along the river. The fall foliage is astounding. It is so pretty this time of year.

  2. My fav fall ride is the OHC annual ClamBake ride at the Cuyahoga Valley Natl Park. Didn't get to do it this year, as I didn't get to do much of any riding this year period
Don't know how to share the link for extra chances though!

  6. My favorite fall ride was just last week with a friend. We went around the corn fields dry and blowing with fall foliage in the background on my two oldest horses. What made it so great was that it followed nearly a week of rain, so we all were itchy for a ride.

  7. I loved fall rides in Mendon Ponds Park south of Rochester, NY. There were so many beautiful deciduous trees and the leaves would rustle as we trotted along the trails.

  8. My saddle is actually a barrel racing saddle, a Big Horn 101. It has a leather top and synthetic fenders and skirt which make it very light weight, 18 pounds, and had been great as a trail and endurance saddle. It has also worked well for starting our young horses. All in all, a pretty good all around saddle. My husband got his from our neighbor and I bought mine off of Horse Clicks. ($100-150 used is a good price.) Hope that helps, do I get another entry for answering your question?

  9. I don't actually have my own horse and or pony, but I ride and train a woman's haflinger mix whenever I can. I treat him and love him like my own. :) Josh is his name. Last year we were riding in the pasture when I could tell he really wanted to run ad have some fun. So I found a long flat strip of land. As we were running i got a little to carried away and leaned forward to much, not knowing the western saddle I was using was a little to big for him. The saddle flew forward so that now it was leaning on its horn. Josh of course stopped immediately which caused me to flip over his head and land on my butt. I freaked out because I was afraid he'd run off and didn't want him to get injured. But being the fat pony he is he just patiently stood there in-front of me eating grass like it was his last time. :) I couldn't help but laugh about it. Definitely my favorite ride :)

  10. I don't go on any organized rides or trails, but occasionally I'll ride the back roads around here (central Wisconsin), I think we're getting off peak with the colors and it's a tad chilly, but it's still pretty.

  11. I don't really get to ride, either, but later this fall I'll ride in an arena in Fresno so I guess that's my favorite place to ride this fall.

  12. New follower here!! Excited to enter to contest!!

I don't get to trail ride much but have gone on a few... my bff and her mom took me to a great park where we went all over! My little hunter was a rock start- crossed water, saw cows, bikers, dogs, people who wanted to pet the horses... etc. It was an awesome experience!

I shared the contest here: https://www.facebook.com/Karley.Hall.Fuller?hc_location=stream

  13. My favorite fall ride is to hit the foothills just north of the city and enjoy the views in the cooler weather. What a cool contest!

  14. My favorite fall trail ride took place when I was about 5 years old. Being the typical horse crazy little girl who didn't have her own horse, or even have access to riding lessons, I was over the moon happy when my parents took me on a trail ride at the resort we were staying at for (Canadian) thanksgiving. I remember everything about that trail ride. The smell of the air and leaves around us, the smell of the horses, how awesome the cool air mixed with the warmth of the sun felt, and that the giant horse I was riding was named Big John. It was perfect and even though it took place over 25 years ago I still think of that ride and how I felt every time I hop into the saddle on my own horses. It is my happiest fall trail ride memory!

  16. My favorite fall ride was always up in the bay area, Ca hills where you could ride through changing trees up to a lookout and watch the sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge and S.F. Pretty spectacular view.

  17. The past three years I've had so much going on in the fall so riding was definitely not a priority but this year we're at a great barn with barn friends that are my age...we've been doing lots of bareback rides and it's great!

  18. Ooooo, great giveaway!! I haven't been able to ride much this year but I must say just going out into the open fields with my girl is really all I can ask for, nothing beats a non eventful fall ride <3

  21. I don't get to see many drives, but the Ohio State Fair has a cool Governor's Cup (6 horse hitch class) that I think is way cool to watch... although I guess that's more summer than fall.

    Does Quarter Horse Congress count?!

  22. My favorite fall ride is always the beach. The quiet sound of the waves and all the intense colours. Can't beat it!

  23. My favorite fall ride is in Brown County, Indiana, in the State Park. There's actually a restaurant with a big hitching post area where you can ride down off the hills, have lunch and water your horses, then ride back. There's nothing like it!

  24. My favorite rides were always the early season fox hunts. First hunt was the first weekend of November, and we would get all dolled up to go freeze for hours. I would lay on Elvis' neck and keep warm in-between gallops... but they were so much fun!

  25. My favorite rides are always in the fall! Right after the first good freeze, so all the flys die.! Not to mention, snow comes in the fall here and I love the snow!

I love riding around in the pasture when it's so pretty and undisturbed (before the horses get turned out...then it's all over). And it's usually one of those "hop on over the blanket and ride bareback" type rides to stay warm.

A few years ago we had over 8 feet of snow at the college and we had to plow tunnels to the barns, hay shed, and shavings shed. The round pens where so full we just started colts snubbed up that year. We had a lot of leg brusies that year too, us being the humans. The term "beep beep" came to new meaning because we all got on colts with no steering in the indoor and of course ran into each other a lot because they were scared and wanted to be near a buddy. It was fun to do it all diffrently, but the mud and ice when it started melting, was not.
