hobby horse blog hop #8

Here are the rules:
Answer one or all of the prompts. Link back to Living a Dream's post. Visit other blogs. And don't forget to ask a question of everyone else!

1. Describe how a horse you have known is sometimes a 'cheeky monkey'. What does he/she do that is a bit naughty?
I leased a Haflinger named Mia. She was super cheeky! Every thing she did was always one step ahead of you.   She had to get her halter and bridle put on in her stall because the minute she was let go from the cross ties, she was off and looking for grass. She was able to break out of her stall and raid the grain stall. And if she got loose on grass, good luck catching that heft Haffie!

2. What is your favorite thing about spring?
I love it when the weather turns nice the grass is growing, all the baby animals, the trees get leaves, and the flowers start blooming But today I discovered my new favorite thing about spring. . .Equine Affaire! I must go every year now! I posted some picks on Shyloh's Facebook page, and I'll share them later. But I can't resist sharing this now. . .
3. What care do you provide for you feet? Horse or human! Do you have a special product that you have discovered and just can't do without?
I don't do too much for my feet. I do paint my nails (one of my only really girls things I do) and I keep them lotioned up. Shyloh is barefoot and gets regular trimmings. I was putting Absorbine Hoofflex on her hooves, but I was just told that because of what is in it, it actually dries her hooves out. So while I am at Equine Affaire, I am looking for something more natural for her hooves.

My question: Kinda goes with being cheeky and Shy's recent bad behaviors. . .What does your horse do to try and get out of working?

  2. I loved the video. All those Haffies...how much fun!
I laughed at your question... and Doc came to mind immediately. He is TERRIBLE about being a pokey puppy when we leave the barn... and then he walks a mile a minute back toward the barn! If I try to circle him, he pushes to the outside of the circle on the house side, and into the circle on the far side - i.e. he makes footballs. Sometimes, he will turn his head to where he wants to go... and it almost takes a winch to pull him around.

  3. This winter, with all of our inconsistent riding opportunities, Misty began running up and down the dry lot as soon as she would see me open the horse trailer doors. Then she would run from me when she saw I had her halter in my hand. If I stood quietly, looking away from her, she would eventually come up to me and I could halter her, but if I tried to follow her around the dry lot, it became and game of tag and I'd never catch her.

  4. Wow that video was awesome!! :D

I think Chrome's thing will be balking. He's done it a couple of times (we're not riding yet of course, but when leading), but usually has a good reason for it. So far though he loves our work. He loves clicker training and loves going for walks, so I guess we will have to see in the future if he comes up with anything.
