giveaway winner and sunshine award

. . . and the winner is. . .Emmi from My Life on Horses! Congrats! Enjoy your new hoodie! I used a fool proof method of putting everyone's name on a piece of paper, cutting it up, putting it in a cup, and having my co-worker pick the winner randomly out of the cup.

Thank you to Horze for sponsoring this giveaway. I had a ton of fun holding this contest. And the best part? I discovered a bunch of new blogs to read!

The Sunshine Award has been making its way around the blog-o-sphere. I have been nominated by L. Williams from Viva Carlos and Mallory from The Country Hitching Post. Thank you both for thinking of me!!

"Here is what the sunshine award means, "bloggers who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogosphere." Of course all awards have rules for awarding people. Rules below."
  • First, the nominee must thank the blogger that nominated her and link to her blog.
  • Next she must nominate ten bloggers for the award and let them know.
  • Then, she must answer a list of ten questions and post to her blog.
  • Finally, the Sunshine Award button must be posted on the blog
1. Do you prefer Mares or Geldings?
Mares. I find them so funny.

2. English or Western?
Driving? Or Western. Maybe one day I'll ride my horse. . .in the Western saddle I have for her.

3. Do you prefer "younger" or "older" horses?
Mia was old and basically bombproof. We had a ton of fun together. Not that I don't have fun with Shyloh, but she is a lot more work!

4. Have you ever trained a horse from ground zero?
No

5. Do you prefer riding or ground work?
Riding? What's that? Just kidding, I love riding. But I also love doing stuff on the ground.

6. Do you board your horse or keep it at home?
I board at a friend's house.

7. Do you do all natural things or commercial stuff? (In the sense of products.)
I try to stay natural, however I have no problem going commercial if that is what works.

8. All Tacked up or Bareback?
I love love love bareback.

9. Equestrian model?
I don't really have an answer for this.

10. What's your, one, main goal while being in the horse world?
Ride my horse without the fear of death? Or just have a great bond with my horse and make her feel safe (preferably while riding or driving).

Next up is my nominees. I am trying to pick bloggers who have not been nominated yet, so here goes:

monday musings by shyloh #105

I love lazy Sundays.

Laying on a bed of hay, don't want to get dirty!
I nap with the minions in the sun. They like to get super muddy, but I prefer to stay clean.
Nap Party
Sometimes Allie wakes me up from my lovely naps and I have to give her the stink eye.
Don't even try to make me work!
Do work? Me? Never! I am a wild and free pony!

And I finally got to go back in with the big guys! I love my minions, but I love my round bale more!

liebster blog award

I am back from my vacation! And while it was fun and relaxing, I was ready to come home. While I was away, I was nominated for the Liebster Blog Award from four other blogs, so thank you Carrot Top from Little Bay Horse, Janine from Hoofprints of Kaspin, Liz from In Omnia Paratus, and Emmi from My Life on Horses.

HOW TO ACCEPT THE AWARD: The Liebster Blog Award is a way to recognize blogs who have less than 200 followers.  Liebster is a German word that means beloved and valued.  Here are the rules for accepting the award:
  1. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link back to their blog.
  2. List 11 random facts about yourself.
  3. Answer the 11 questions given to you.
  4. Create 11 questions for the bloggers you nominate.
  5. Choose 11 bloggers with 200 or fewer followers to nominate and include links to their blogs.
  6. Go to each blogger's page and let them know you have nominated them.

Eleven Random Facts about Me:
  • I'm afraid of heights
  • I would totally redo what I picked as a career path if given the chance
  • I love swimming being in the water. . .I think I was a dolphin in a past life
  • I am the worst cooker/cleaner/anything related with being domestic
  • I hate giving random facts about myself because I can never think of anything and I feel boring
  • I recently went through an Arby's drive thru with my horse mask on and asked for horsey sauce. . .I got nine! (I don't even like horsey sauce)
  • I am incredibly picky about what I eat
  • I constantly watch shows like Law and Order, NCIS, and Criminal Minds
  • Reading is something I love to do. . .I even finished Dance with Dragons on vacation!
  • I wish I was in much better shape (well any other shape than round), but I am lazy. Bad excuse
  • I love playing games

Since I got four nominations, I am going to take three questions from each person, thus messing up the eleven theme, but I feel that it will be okay. . .

Carrot Top:
1.  What's the last book you read cover-to-cover? Dances with Dragons, the last book written so far in the Game of Thrones series.

2. Have you ever broken a bone, and if so how? I broke my wrist by falling off the top of a slide when I was seven.
3. If you could chose any super-power, what would it be? So many to choose from . . .probably super agility. . .I could jump super high, have cat like reflexes, and move super quick. Awesome.

Janine:
4. Do you trail ride? Not yet, but that is the ultimate goal!
5. Favorite food for you? Pickles! I love them!
6. Favorite treat for your horse? Shy loves Stud Muffins and Nicker Makers. She also won't turn down a peppermint, an apple, or a carrot.

Liz:
7. Most amazing vacation destination you've ever been to? A place you haven't been to yet but hope to one day visit? My hands down favorite spot is Traverse City, Michigan. It is so beautiful there! I would love to vacation in Australia though.
8. Shoes, boots, or bare? Why? Barefoot because Shy doesn't need shoes. As long as her feet are healthy, why mess with nature?
9. Best birthday ever: what did you do and why was it so awesome? I love all my birthdays. . .but I will pick a recent one. Me and my husband took the dogs up to Traverse City and rented a little cottage. It was amazing. We did a wine walk through the town and took the dogs to this tiny lake we discovered up there and we were the only ones around so we could let the dogs run and swim.

Emmi:
10.  How many siblings do you have? I have one sister, she is two years younger than me.
11What is your favorite time of the year? Fall, by far.
12. Which do you like short horses or tall horses? I am going to go with short horses.

The eleven questions I created:
  1. How did you get into horses?
  2. What other animals do you have?
  3. Do you board your horses or keep them at home?
  4. How do your friends/family/significant other feel about your horse obsession (because we all know, we are obsessed)?
  5. What is your favorite non horsey thing to do?
  6. What is the weirdest thing you ever tried to feed your horse? Did your horse like it?
  7. What is one thing with horses that you would like to try that you have not done?
  8. Describe your horse in three words.
  9. Borrowing this from another: Barefoot, boots, or shoes?
  10. Supplements? Yay or neigh?
  11. Did anyone else have a hard time coming up with 11 questions?

liebster blog award

I am honored to have received the Liebster Blog Award from achieve1dream over at Living a Farmer's Life. I also read her other blog, One Friesian Sporthorse, One Percheron, & One Donkey. She has a donkey and he is the cutest! I am in love with donkeys right now.  Check them out, they are a great read!
Liebster means “dearest” in German, and the award is intended to help up-and-coming blogs get the attention they deserve. Here are the rules:

1. Copy and paste the award on our blog.
2. Link back to the blogger who gave us the award
3. Pick our five favorite blogs with less than 200 followers, and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they have received the award.
4. Hope that the five blogs chosen will keep spreading the love and pass it on to five more blogs
  1. Living a Dream - A Haflinger blog with silly Pippin and the more serious Doc. Plus a lot of other fun stuff to read about!
  2. Drafty Hafy Gurl - Another Haflinger blog about Camryn, a pretty mare, her dog, and her human and their life.
  3. Bob the Equestrian - A fellow Michigan blogger who writes about how his daughter's grew up around horses and how he has decided to start lessons himself. He is a very witty writer.
  4. sweet horse's breath - Another Michigan blogger who has excellent ideas to share and discusses her handsome boy Laz, an OTTB.
  5. Manitoba Moonsox and Me - A blog about Moon, a horse in training for dressage with his owner and the road she travels to achieve her dreams.
Thank you! And give these blogs a read!

trail walk and one lovely blog award

Shyloh's new bridle has opened up a world of opportunity to us! Oh, the things we will be able to accomplish now! Today, we went on a trail walk!

Sandy and Forseti were going on a trail ride, so I asked to tag along at the walk. I bridled Shy up, put on her boots, and off we went. We went through tall grass, a field, and along a gravel road.
Out in the field
Sandy and Forseti
Shy was perfect! No spooks!! And she kept up a good walking pace. The only time she even lifted her head and perked her ears was when a man was cutting wood or something off in the distance. We encountered cars, frogs, barking dogs, and Forseti spooking at his own shadow. Shy seemed as calm and comfortable as can be. I am excited about her trail horse potential!
On the road
Sandy and Forseti again
The funny thing about Shy is that she is such a stickler for the rules. She will only walk on if I am in the correct position between her head and shoulder. If I get too far ahead because she is being pokey, she will stop, and I have to re-position myself to get her going again.

Shy and I really worked up a sweat on our trail walk. It was good for both of us and it is something we will definitely be doing again, hopefully soon! And eventually, our trail walks will turn into trail rides.
Shy likes trail walks! Big smile!
As a reward for her good trail walk behavior, I gave Shyloh some apples to bob for in a bucket. She figured out if she drinks some of the water, then she can press the apple to the bottom of the bucket, making it easier to eat!  She then got to graze outside with Forseti. I do not know what I am getting myself into with her and Forseti, I just hope they do not become buddy sour!

And here are the seven things about myself. . .
1. I am easily excited. Small things make me happy, like today. I saw two big frogs on our trail walk! Actually, Shyloh spotted them first.
2. I hate doing dishes, but I do not mind doing laundry.
3. I love CSI and Law and Order type shows.
4. I cannot stand reality TV.
5. My favorite color is blue.
6. I love my phone. Seriously, I could not live without it. It does so much stuff! Games, internet, apps, phone. Most of my blog pictures are from the phone.
7. I have road rage. Driving is not my favorite thing to do.
